Associate Dance Teacher

  • LoMastro Performing Arts Academy is currently seeking applicants for Associate Dance Teachers.

  • This apprentice position is designed for an early-career dance teacher who is looking to develop a wide range of skills, experiences and connections that will benefit her/him personally and professionally. This position is a stepping stone to a full faculty position at LoMastro and is an excellent resume builder. Those with an interest in teaching with either a degree in dance or with equivalent performance experience interested in teaching may apply for the Associate Dance Teacher position. This is a paid position. Associate Dance Teachers are mentored by our artistic director and senior faculty members.

Dance Internship

  • LoMastro Performing Arts Academy is currently seeking applicants for our Dance Internships. The Dance intern will work directly with LoMastro founder/Artistic Director Loren LoMastro Specht and senior faculty members to learn what it takes to be a dance educator as well as the inner workings our performing arts academy.

DANCE INTERNSHIP

  • The internship is a semester- or year-long position. The intern will take on tasks and projects, and learn a broad range of skills and experiences in some or all of these areas:

    • Dance Instruction

    • Production Logistics: Nutcracker, Recitals, Benefit Concerts

    • Stage Management

    • Administration

    • Choreography

  • The intern will work directly with the Artistic Director, Faculty, and other department managers and staff as needed. The intern will gain an understanding of the day-to-day operations of a large-sized performing arts academy, specifically with regards to dance instruction. Direct experience in a classroom will be an integral part of duties of this position.

  • This internship is designed for an early-career, aspiring dance instructor, current college students or recently-graduated student who is looking to develop a wide range of skills, experiences and connections that will benefit her/him personally and professionally.

 

Time Commitment:

  • DATES | Two time periods are available:

    • FALL/WINTER: This internship is ideally September 12 through to December 12.

    • WINTER/SPRING: This internship is ideally January through May.

    • SUMMER:  This internship is ideally June through August.

    • We will give preference to a qualified candidate who can commit to the entire 9 month period Sept-May.

  • TIME | 4-12 hours a week, with some flexibility (although a regular weekly schedule will be expected).

    • The academy is open, Monday through Saturday (some Sundays).

    • We are closed on most major holidays and for some extended times during the Thanksgiving, Winter Break and Spring Break.

 

Compensation:

 

  • This is a paid internship, LoMastro Performing Arts Academy will pay $15 per hour during the internship, based on the regular work schedule. The intern will also be able to participate in unlimited classes at LoMastro for the duration of the internship.

 

Type of Tasks Intern Might Expect to Work On:

  • Assist and support the Artistic Director, Faculty, Office Manager and staff both in and out of the classroom.

  • Assist Faculty in the classroom with teaching curriculum and choreography.

  • Assist Artistic Director with communication, planning, and coordination.

  • Assist in costume, prop and storage organization.

  • Assist with show specific organizational duties and rehearsal preparation.

  • Attend show rehearsals

  • Customer service; answering phones, emails and door traffic

  • General Office support: photocopying, filing, mailings, cleaning, and other basic office functions

  • Other duties as assigned

 

Requirements of Successful Candidate:

  • Interest in a career in dance education.

  • Experience in dance.

  • Ability to undergo and satisfactorily pass a criminal background investigation
