RPT5004LoMastroLogoPres627july10Singing Stars (K-2nd Grade) Most kids love singing and are natural vocalizers. This class is a FUN way for younger children to acquire vocal skills and develop their ability to sing and stay in tune. New songs will be covered every few weeks to help children build a repertoire (a list of songs that they are prepared to perform). This will help tremendously when it comes time to audition. Our goal is to train the singers of tomorrow and prepare them to use their voices the right way! An informal classroom performance will be held at the end of each semester. New material will always make this class appropriate for repeat students. This class is great preparation for Song & Dance Troupe.

Song & Dance Troupe (2nd - 8th Grade) This high energy, fast paced performance class will knock your socks off with fun! Students will learn proper breathing, posture, and vocal technique as well as choreography. Repertoire includes Broadway showtunes, pop songs, and traditional choral pieces. Students take part in one half-hour of vocal instruction and one half-hour of choreography per week in working to produce their original “mini showcase”. This ensemble will perform two showcases per school year. The first at the Dancers Care Benefit Concert in January and the second at the LPAA Recital in May/June. This is great training for students who wish to perform in musical theatre productions!

Private Voice (Ages 7 - Adult) Private vocal instruction is offered to ages 7-adult. Lessons are designed to teach the student to sing with proper vocal technique and are tailored to fit each student's individual needs. Students enroll in weekly thirty minute lessons for the 17-Week Semester. Please call the academy for teacher availability and times.

Story Theatre (ages 4-5, K-1st Grade) This class teaches basic theatre techniques using Story Dramatization and Creative Dramatics. Using their imagination, the children create their own unique dramatizations of well-known stories and fairy tales. Assuming roles, the children interact in dramatic improvisations that demonstrate an awareness of physical and vocal possibilities. The story is “acted out” scene-by-scene with movement, music & visual elements added to enhance the children’s experience. An informal classroom performance will be held at the end of each semester. New material will always make this class appropriate for repeat students. This class is great preparation for Show Biz Stars.

Show Biz Stars (ages 6 & up) “Putting on a Show” from start to finish is the focus of this class. The children participate in “informal” auditions and are “cast” in the show (All children have equal parts). Class time is spent working on learning the songs, choreography, and dialogue. Developing a strong characterization using their bodies & voices is emphasized. Your “stars” present their mini-musical during the last class session of each semester. New material will always make this class appropriate for repeat students. This class is a suggested prerequisite for Acting Workshop and Musical Theatre.

Acting Workshop (3rd-8th Grade) This technique based drama program, will explore a variety of acting skills and techniques. The curriculum is divided into “units of study” including: Acting, Theatre Games, Improvisations, Monologues, Short Scene Studies, etc. In-studio performances, at the end of each unit, provide students ample performance opportunities in a comfortable setting. During the last unit of the year, students utilize the skills they’ve acquired to create a short, scripted play, which is performed, for parents and friends. New material will always make this class appropriate for repeat students.

Musical Theatre (3rd-8th Grade) In this performance class, students will act, sing and dance as they rehearse songs and scenes from the selected musical. From auditions, to blocking scenes, to learning acting techniques and song interpretation, students will go through the process of working on a musical script. All students will receive an on stage role with lines/blocking/songs/dances. Specific roles are determined after the first rehearsal (audition). All children will receive a Cast T-shirt. Enrollment in both Semesters is assumed, but not required. Show Biz Stars is a suggested pre-requisite for this class.
